25 Years of Building Peace & Prosperity

Our Story

From Kigali's Grassroots to National Impact

In 2001, as Rwanda was rebuilding from the wounds of civil conflict, a group of community leaders came together with a single conviction: that lasting peace is built from the ground up. They founded CAPR — Collectif des Artisans de la Paix et la Réconciliation — to bridge the gap between government institutions and the communities that needed them most.

Over two decades, CAPR has grown from a grassroots initiative in Kigali to a nationally recognised organisation operating across seven Rwandan districts — from Kayonza in the east to Rutsiro in the west.

Our approach has never changed: work with communities, not for them. Every program is designed with beneficiaries, not for beneficiaries.

Core Values & Principles

Our Vision

A future where all people have access to basic needs and live in harmony.

Our Mission

To empower citizens with skills for successful participation in community development and peacebuilding.

Values
Transparency
Every franc, every program, every result is accounted for. We publish our impact and our challenges. We believe that trust is the currency of community transformation.
Sustainability
We build programs that outlast our involvement — empowering communities to lead their own development. We don't just solve problems; we build systems that thrive independently.
Reconciliation
We believe divided communities can become unified ones. It is not a hope — it is a methodology. Through dialogue, conflict resolution and shared goals, we turn survivors and perpetrators into partners in progress.
Innovation
Old problems need new thinking. We welcome youth leadership, technology, and fresh approaches to poverty. Innovation at CAPR means finding authentic solutions for uniquely Rwandan challenges.
